What is the Urban Green Line ?

As a green trail running through the city, the Urban Green Line connects communities to green spaces and sustainable organisations — encouraging walking, co-creation and guerrilla gardening along the way. The main visual element is a moss trail “painted” on the ground, highlighting green space or a greening activity. Depending on the area, the line can also be a grass line, a painted line or a chalk line. This line can be put down anywhere, by anyone, at any season. As both a symbol and a guidance system, the Urban Green Line creates a strong visual and environmental impact.
The Urban Green Line will be supported by a website where people can tag green spaces on a virtual map and share information on living a green lifestyle.
Online and off, this network connects and mobilises people, organisations and businesses for a greener, healthier and more sustainable future together. Users walk the line, explore the line with their families and garden along the line whenever they can. Parents, gardeners, cyclists, organic shoppers, walkers, tourists and many more can all enjoy this free offer however they want.
The Urban Green Line received seed funding by winning the Audi Design Foundation’s ‘Sustain our Nation’ Award for London in February 2010.
